Attorney Sean P. Moynihan has been named a Visiting Professor to Ulster University School of Law in Belfast and Derry, Northern Ireland. The 3 year appointment will run from 2026-2029. He was selected by the law school based upon his many years of legal, advocacy and volunteer work with Massachusetts State Government and various Irish, legal organizations, and Irish and Northern Irish based institutes of higher education.

A recent visit to the Belfast campus involved discussions with LLM students in the subject matters of International Law and the Law of Armed Conflict. Topics that students sought input on from Professor Moynihan included:

  • Constitutional challenges surrounding the actions of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE);

  • The proposed Executive Order by the Trump Administration to end birthright citizenship;

  • recent Supreme Court decisions around the Voting Rights Act;

  • Prisoners being held at Guantanamo Bay Naval Center in Cuba after the 9/11 attacks;

  • The lack of Congressional input regarding the attack on Iran by the Untied States and Israel.

After the classroom discussions, there was an opportunity over lunch for the students to chat with Attorney Moynihan about their studies and what they saw as their ultimate career paths using their legal education. The students graciously presented the newly minted visiting professor with a gift bag including Ulster U merch and some gifts from local merchants in Belfast.

On Friday evening there was a judge in residence dinner hosted at the University’s culinary school’s restaurant The Academy Restaurant, which featured a four course meal prepared by the Culinary Arts Management students.
